Head Coach

Lena Mitcho

Welcome to the 2025 Hammerhead swim season! My name is Lena(Lay-na) Mitcho, and I am the head coach this summer. I grew up swimming competitively, from the 6 and under bracket all the way through college. I was a sprinter and competed often in freestyle and backstroke, but if you were to ask my coaches from my hometown in PA, they might tell you that sometimes your least favorite stroke may become the one you're best at! My experience in coaching started with assisting the younger age-group practices at 14, and is primarily what led to me becoming an elementary teacher today. Sharing my love for the sport led to opportunities to work as an assistant coach for my summer team and a local USA team, and to run a swim lesson program in my hometown. Outside of swimming, I love to work with clay, spend time outdoors, and hang out with my dog, Bernie. I feel that it's important to meet swimmers where they are, and my goals for every member are to improve technical skills, find appreciation for the tough sets, and invite joy into the sport. Let's have a great season!
